I love this quote by Stephen Covey and wanted to share it with you.
Besides, who can’t use a little extra push on a Tuesday morning 😉
“I am not a product of my circumstances. I am a product of my decisions.”
What a powerful reminder that WE are in control of much more than we think.
It is easy to look outward and blame other people, fate, etc for keeping you stuck in an unhappy situation. I get it but take a moment to think it through. Are you really so powerless?
Here’s a little exercise that I have found useful.
Try taking a piece of paper and draw three big circles and label them: Things I have NO CONTROL over, Things I have SOME CONTROL over and, Things I have COMPLETE CONTROL over.
Start filling up the circles accordingly with elements of your life.
For example, I have no control over the weather or traffic or what kind of day one of my clients is having. I have some control over how healthy a meal I can order while at a restaurant or how a particular meeting is handled. I have complete control over how well prepared I am for a presentation, how my attitude is when I arrive to work, and what shoes I decide to wear.
The idea is to let go of the frustration and stress over things you can’t control and illuminate areas that you can begin to change. Change, as you know, comes through the execution of actions.
What decision are you going to make TODAY, and what actions are you going to take to move toward something you really want? I’d love to hear about it.
