I’m on vacation with some friends and having a great time. Even though I’m supposed to be taking a break, I had a quick thought I wanted to share as I drink my second cup of the day. Okay, it’s more of a question I wanted to ask you: do you ever feel like quitting?
I think it occurs to most of us at some point. Everyone might want to throw in the towel when the going gets tough sometimes. I know in my own life there were plenty of times I felt like giving up. Injured back, failing knees, relationship break ups, the stress of running a small business. It’s fair to say I’ve spent some serious time contemplating my life choices.
But for those of us who are actively working on rewiring their brains , we know we have to stop dwelling on the adverse events of yesterday and look ahead. For me, a big part of it is focusing on how I can improve what I do for our members and staff at the Bodysmith. Helping people become the best they can be is a very rewarding part of my job. Throw in motorcycle rides, playing gigs in a great band, hanging out with good friends and I’m good for motivation.
As a former cyclist, the bike still holds much wisdom for me. And sometimes when things are tough, I like to think of this quote from a great, albeit controversial, champion:
“Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year, but eventually it will subside, and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it lasts forever.” –Lance Armstrong
So let’s all raise our cups of coffee to never quitting.
