When did you start working out at the Bodysmith & why?
- I started with the Bodysmith in October 2016, with the Little Black Dress Challenge. I knew within four days of the challenge that I wanted to continue with it. Why did I start? I was driving by the gym one day, as I had many, many times before, and thought, “I need to look into that sometime.” (Honestly, I had seen a recent picture of myself and did not like my condition, so I had been thinking about going back to a gym for a couple of months prior to that).
How many days per week do you exercise? Describe your workout.
- I exercise 4-6 times a week, primarily at 5 AM. My workouts within the last nine months have been customized because I had knee surgery and needed to rehab it. Prior to that, it was all classes. My workouts are a lot of strength and conditioning with cardio and core sprinkled in.
What is your current fitness goal & what keeps you on track?
- My current fitness goal is to continue to strengthen my knee, build my strength, lose body fat and reduce my weight…I don’t always stay on track because of my food choices. However, I keep looking forward and reset. Progress, not perfection, right?
What is the piece of equipment, supplement, clothing etc.. you can’t live without?
- Over the years, the “I cannot live without _________” has changed. Sometimes it was water, sometimes the kettle bells, sometimes the fitness challenges, and sometimes sleep/restoration. Most recently, it’s the relationships built within the gym, and the support and encouragement I receive from the trainers, staff, and my gym-mates. That is invaluable.
What benefits have you seen since working out at the Bodysmith?
- I am SO much stronger than I used to be. While my weight has fluctuated (because of my own food choices), I have a way to reduce body fat, increase lean muscle mass, and increase endurance. I have done that. I could not do without my workouts for my own mental health and emotional well-being, as well as my physical well-being.
What do you do when you aren’t at the gym?
- When I am not at the gym, I am a wife, mom, friend, sister, and lawyer. I go to live music events with my husband of 32 years, Jack. I especially like the outdoor events. I like to read and watch movies, spending time with friends and I like to watch sports – especially college football (go Huskers!), soccer, hockey, and boxing.
What advice would you give someone who is just starting their fitness journey?
- Take it one step at a time! Sometimes there will be steps back but don’t give up…just reset and move forward again. You don’t have to be perfect, but try to be consistent. Plan your meals and your splurges – don’t let them rule you – you rule them. Don’t stop – you are SO, SO, SO worth it.
